Mysterious Teaching

Insights behind the perils of being a teacher

20 years of crap er, I mean stuff to pack up and move.

I couldn't do it before school was out.  I tried.  I did!  and had 34students racing down the sidewalks with my boxes.  34 students just can't help much.  So, I spent Tuesday and Wednesday after school was out finishing up.  I didn't take it all.  I left the Christmas Tree (yes, we are still having Christmas at our school) and old encyclopedias ( 1974) and some other stuff behind.  They can toss it.  I was too tired to care.  I filled the fourth grade storage room with just my stuff.  Good thing I am the only 4th grade teacher coming back.  I will be reducing this when we move into the new school.  I am putting a lot of it in the staff resource room.  It is a donation.  I am tired of keeping it in my room.  I offer to let other teachers use it anytime they want but I have the only key.  So, I am creating a teacher library for them to use it too.  I can't wait.  I am also reducing the trade book library.  I will start with our new 4th grade teachers and then share with others.  There are plenty to share around.  I am getting rid of JUNK.  I no longer feel the need to possess so much.  I won't get rid of my thematic units (Ancient Egypt, Castles and Renaissance, Rainforest) because I love them so much and will try to use them from time to time.  We are pretty much a scripted school now.  We have to be on page such-and-such on this day.  I hope to get to expand that a little.

I never taught with scripted curriculum.  It does keep teachers on the same page, but I think it might get a little boring.  Maybe you can enhance some of your lessons with some of your favorite units.  I like your teacher library idea.
