Mysterious Teaching

Insights behind the perils of being a teacher

Thank God for construction!!!

We couldn't go in to work at school this summer because all of our stuff was packed up to move to the new school.  I still can't go back until the 30th because the builders won't give the district the keys until then.  I have no choice but to enjoy the last few days of freedom.  I will have to rent or borrow a truck to move my stuff.  I am sure that the district will be spending most of their time moving the library and offices.  The high school will be moving into our ancient building because they no longer have enough room.  So, we have to get our stuff out.  Heh, heh, I wonder if they will have the problems fixed?

We have had floods, roofs cave in, termites, spiders, mice, and a huge host of cockroaches invade these rooms.  The district was never able to fix our problems.  The computer Hub (in my classroom) kept burning a switch out and shutting down all the computers in our building.  They never could find the problem.

I wonder if I can hire a kid to help me move?

It doesn't sound good for the high school kids having to move into the old building.  I taught in a school one summer that had roaches almost as big as my shoes.  It was disgusting.  I hope you find someone to help you move.

It isn't a good idea.  But I have been teaching in it for 20 years so I don't feel too bad.  They will be tearing it down as soon as they build the new high school.  Orginally, all our buildings were on the same campus so it is right next to the high school.
