I really feel sorry for my new teachers. They haven't learned to be flexible yet. This is just the beginning and I don't know how they will take the rest of the year if they can't deal with all the sudden changes now. First we had to Math Inventory the kids. Then this week is DIBLES testing and it is slow and laborious. They are behind too. So, kids are being pulled out at about 5-6 at a time for testing. Next week is Writing Benchmark! The lower grades have a computizes test to take. So of course, there have been NO SPECIALS!!! because of all the testing. Finally, we will have our classes back to ourselves after next week and then it will be time to do Progress Monitoring.
Now, I have been at this job for many years and have learned to just go with the flow. However, the new teachers have never experienced all these interruptions to education before. They are just realizing WHY it is so darned hard to actually meet the academic standards. It isn't always the teachers...sometimes the system is what is stopping education from happening. I think that every single congress person in the United States ought to have to spend several weeks in school observing all the interruptions we experience before THEY decide on educational bills. Especially NCLB.
