Mysterious Teaching

Insights behind the perils of being a teacher

Teaching Makes the Grade

For me, teaching is the only thing.  It isn't the only thing I want to do with my life, nor is it the only thing I do.  It is the only thing that makes me truly happy.  Every single day, I get to think of ways to help children get information into their wonderful little noggins.  I even spend my summers thinking up new ideas to make teaching the curriculum more memorable.  So much of what we do is a boring to the kids.  It is a challenge to make what I teach interesting and memorable.  The more senses I use, the more memory they will have about it.

I must admit, I have off days when I don't really care and I am as boring as many teachers can be.  Those days make me sad when I reflect that the kids may not remember what we did.  I love children.  I love learning.  I love them make them love learning.  It is my life long passion, learning.  Even when I retire (in about 15 years) I think I will turn to adult literacy to work.  Imagine getting an adult who has never been a successful reader, to the point where reading is their form of entertainment.  What a blessing!  What an adventure it would be.
