Insights behind the perils of being a teacher

Gang people raising the next generation

During parent conferences one of my new little boys came in with his parents.  I was shocked.  He seems so normal and well adjusted and is very very smart.  His dad was wearing the typical gang clothing.  He had pants down below his butt, huge shirts, and a black rag tied around his head.  There were tattoos all over his arms and hands.  His wife looked like she could be in a gang too.  Are these people for real?  What kind of adult would come to a school dressed like that?  It scared the h--- out of me because that means this little boy will probably follow in his dad's footsteps.

We have a gang task force in out town because a lot of the people who are tagged as gang members in California are moving to Arizona.  They only have to be caught hanging out with gang members 3 times to be tagged by the police as gang members.  So, after the second time, they move to Arizona.  We are having huge problems in our community with gangs and gang activities.  Why would you make yourself recognizable as a gang member in a new community?  If you weren't a gangster, why would you dress like that?  These are supposed to be adults.  Why aren't they acting like adults?

The worst part was that they came to the school dressed like that.  In front of other kids and everything.  All of the kids who saw them know that they are in a gang now.

being in ca, yeah we are about to get some 3rd generation gang bangers. i got kids who don't actually claim but talk about mom/dad/both claiming. why? oh there are a dozen reasons and none of them are good, except--how can you change if that's all you know?

haven't had anyone that obvious show up at school, but that's b/c they know we would call the cops. they come into my sbux thugged out tho. and quite frankly, they are rarely the ones who cause the problems in the shopping center.
