Insights behind the perils of being a teacher

I DIBLEd today

After weeks of reading intervention, I DIBLEd my class for October today.  I discovered that my student who are going to other classes for intervention went down!  I was a little upset so I emailed the Reading Coach and we discussed it.  So, I am trading with one of the new teachers and taking the low kids myself.  I will let him have the kids who are already benchmarked.  I guess I will have to tell him what to do as well.  This is not the time to just let them sit around and talk.  They need to be reading.

The only problem is that my current group is huge, 56 kids, and I am not sure he can handle a group that big.  It seems that I am the only 4th grade teacher with a discipline approach that works.  I don't know what to do about this.  This group really likes me and loves spending the 35 minutes in my room.  I guess one of the kids told his parents that I make reading fun.  I am not quite sure how I accomplish this because I make them read every day as well.  But, we do have Read-n-Munch every week because I want them to experience reading for pleasure.

I just can't sit by and watch the low readers get lower.  It goes against the grain.  We are meeting on Tuesday to solve this issue.  You see, my team is all new teachers except me.  I may take all of lowest readers and see what happens.  That would be about 20 kids in all I think.  Of course then there are the Strategic kids who are barely reading below grade level.  They went down too.  Maybe it is just the adjustment to the intervention that is getting them.  I don't know.  I only know that they can't go down.

We have tons of reading intervention stuff to use with them.  I don't quite know what is going on.
