Mysterious Teaching

Insights behind the perils of being a teacher

Apparantly my say was garbage!

We were asked to bring research to the Gifted meeting and present different ideas.  That isn't what happened.  I brought research and one teacher told me it was garbage essentially because it didn't agree with her unresearched ideas.  I was so put in my place that I was angry all the way home.  It so happens that I had this teacher's child several years ago and she was always mad at me because her daughter should have been making straight A's since she was gifted.  I got more grief from her than any other parent that year.  Now she is a teacher and she still thinks I did her daughter a total disservice by not giving her all A's.  Therefore, any idea I have is trash.

I emailed the admin in charge and expressed my feelings this morning.  I don't know if I can be on the committee anymore.  I have done a lot of work but I don't need the anger from this teacher.  It is bad for my health.

Maybe there could be new rules made for your committee on gifted so that she isn't able to dominate the meetings.  If not, I agree with you that it's not worth it to put up with someone who is obviously never going to agree with you because she is angry about the past.  Surely, now that she is a teacher, she realizes that A's need to be earned.  Just being gifted isn't a ticket to getting good grades.  Maybe she needs to just get over her fine self!
