Mysterious Teaching

Insights behind the perils of being a teacher

What's this crap?

1.  I live in Arizona and I hear on the news last night that the legislature is considering a bill on allowing college kids permission to carry legal concealed weapons to school.  There was also a K-12 bill but parents had a cow.  I am still having a cow!  Carry guns to school?  Are they crazy?  That would make matters worse not better.  If schools are supposed to be violence, drug and weapon free, how can these idiots even think about this motion?

2.  After school detention.  We need it.  We have it.  Now they want the teachers to staff it.  NOT ME!  I actually set up and ran an in-school suspension room for a year and it almost ruined my health.  The worst of the worsrt were in my room.  At times I had 40 of them.  By January 30th, I had 3.  I made their educational lives misery and they returned the favor.  However, I must have won because the word got out that ISS was NOT the place to end up.  It really cut down on problems.  But, it almost killed me too.  That many naughty kids in one room is not to be imagined.  I refuse to do it ever again.

3.  Teachers are still not showing up for mandatory meetings.  I can't believe it.  I would never even consider doing that.  They just shrug and say, I have something else that I need to do.  Good Lord, is there anything more important that your job?  I only have to support myself but I still can't afford to lose my job.

4.  Crap!  Lunch is over.  I have to go.

I thought the same thing.  I can't believe they were considering letting teachers carry guns to school.

We had to take turns doing detention duty.  It took place in the morning, and there was always a room full of kids.  It reminded me of The Breakfast Club and got my day off to a pretty rough start.

I say we just arm 'em all to the teeth and let 'em fight it out!

Does this legislature live any where in what people like to call "The Real World"?
