We have one day left. One day! My kids wanted to know what I was going to get them. Get them? Are they kidding? There are 31 of them and only one of me. When did kids learn that everything was supposed to be given to them? When did they get the nerve to ASK for things that aren't theirs to ask for? They wanted me to bring candy for the last day. They just came out and said, "Are you giving us candy tomorrow?" "Are you giving us a party tomorrow?" I told them absolutely...NOT!
We have teachers with the same mentality. They want it all without caring about budgets, kids, and who cares about anyone else. I work hard for the things I have in my class. I attend extra classes, I join groups that will benefit me and in the end my class and I never expect to be given anything. In fact, I have given away thousands of dollars in supplies that I paid for.
My class thinks that I should buy the crayons, pencils, paper, etc. when it is blatantly on the supply list. I have had to supply tissues because they don't want to bring any. Finally, after providing 24 boxes of tissue this year, I told them to use paper towels. I was done.
Where do these children and adults get the idea that everything should be supplied and given to them? I know I never asked for things. I wait until they are offered. That is how I was brought up. A teacher came up to me and asked me where I got my extra computers and how she could get some. I told her I took some special technology classes that were offered to everyone and as a result, they were given to me. She wanted to know who to ask if she could have some too. I told her no one. You have to take the classes. She didn't want to do that.
I would like it all given to me too. But, it is so much more fun to earn it.
