Insights behind the perils of being a teacher

Books are my friends

We are a reading family.
My children rant and rave at me because I don't read the same literature they read.  I have my personal favorites and through the years, I have read them over and over.  I enjoy finding things that I didn't get the first time.  I am also getting old and don't always remember how the story progressed or ended.  Even if I do, I enjoy visiting with my old friends again.
My kids think I should be expanding my horizons and read non-fiction and huge novels and the stuff they read.  Me?  I enjoy children's literature and young adult fiction.  I am also into mysteries and science fiction.  I read to relax and reduce the stress in my life.  I read for the pure pleasure of the story and I enjoy series so I can visit my friends over and over.
I am not into reading non-fiction that freaks me out, causes me distress or makes me uncomfortable.  That may be real life, but I prefer my gentler life.
I don't live in a fairy world but I wouldn't mind visiting it over and over.  I don't like war and lots of killing and yet, I don't mind watching the medical examiner stuff on tv.  If books are too graphic, I don't like them either.  I guess I am really a marshmallow.
Books are how I travel.  Books are how I pretend.  Books are my friends.
Let them read the stuff they read and they should leave me alone and let me read what I read.  Besides, I have guided students onto some really exciting series in the past because I was so enthusiastic about it.
I say Yea to all people who read and I don't judge what you read so don't judge what I read.
